How to be a Mangaka, part 4: Writing the NAME
☆彡 Click here for a list of all of the posts in this series. *^_^* Oh my. I’m sitting here, just after midnight, fully aware that it’s my birthday. My 35th birthday, actually. I don’t feel that age at all, or at least not what I imagined that age to be when I was younger (I should write a post about that). ANYWAYS, this post isn’t about that! This post is here because I’ve been fervently working on a manga, and it’s way behind schedule, but I’m sharing the process with you. That’s the way I roll. First off, making manga is HARD. WORK. I should know, I did it for…

Here comes Jamieism Pro(ductions)!
It’s scary, I have to admit it. Nothing is safe, nothing is sane. If I don’t make enough to live, then I’ll be kicked out of the room that I’m renting, and then what will happen? But.. I’ve decided to take a huge gamble! It’s now or never, and I am really tired and stressed-out from waiting for so long for the stars to align (basically for me to win the lottery, lol). Forget that! I’ll make my own destiny! I’m going to start up my manga production company! What does that mean? That means that I’ll make it my full-time job to draw manga and put it out, and…

My Japanese Husband Thinks I’m Crazy!
I tried to imitate Grace’s style… did I succeed? It sort of ended up halfway in-between our styles, lol. I’m no master imitator like that guy who did those Sailor Moon portraits, that’s for sure! Oh, wait, what was I talking about? This is going to sound really advertise-y, but I’m not getting paid for this. I’m writing it because I want to. As in, I really, really loved these books SO much! One evening, I was especially missing Japan (I do that a lot, especially when I’m stressed-out or upset. I am increasingly thinking that I’ll end up moving back someday, but anyways!), and I was browsing Amazon for…

This notebook holds all my secrets.
I’m sitting here this morning over breakfast, and wondering exactly what I was going to write about today. Ah, that’s right! Announcement!! Well, there are a few, and they are all comic-related! (17 hours later) …. Oh dear, I’ve had this post open all day, and I was thinking about what picture to use. I drew some, but they weren’t right. I looked at some more, and they weren’t right, either. This photo is the one that you get! And there’s a reason to it.. You see, this notebook holds all of my secrets. Well, all of my manga secrets. Most of them, anyways. There are some others, scrawled out…

All the FEELS!
This has been a learning experience. HAS IT EVER! I’m filled to the brim with all sorts of feelings. Feels. Emotion, overflowing and tipping over the edge of ME, rendering me incapable of stringing two words together for hours on end. So this is how it feels to finish something that you’ve been working on for a year! Since I’m having trouble typing it out, let me show you instead: Is it perfect? I don’t know. John Green talked in a Vlogbrothers video about how when authors get a final copy of their book back, they immediately find a typo. That’s what happened when I got my proof,…

How to be a Mangaka, part 3: International Manga contests
☆彡 Click here for a list of all of the posts in this series. *^_^* In the first part of this series, I talked about the paths that an aspiring mangaka in Japan can take to get published and finally work as a real, full-fledged manga artist. There are a few ways to go about it, but the most common path is to enter a manga contest. But what about people outside of Japan? What can they do if they want to be published in the land of the rising sun? It might surprise you, but of course they can enter! People from outside of Japan can and do enter Japanese…

The people who inspire me to draw ♡
Catherine asked me on Facebook this morning if I can share what artists inspire me. The answer is simple: Yes, yes I can! I have always love, love, loved to draw, and when I was a kid, I didn’t have anyone specific that I looked up to. I just drew from life, and drew cartoons on occasion. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I came upon people whose work really inspired me. First through comics, and then eventually through manga. I suppose you can say that manga and me were the kind of pair destined to be brought together, bonded now until the end of time. Here are…

How to be a Mangaka, part 2: Learn the tools!
☆ Part one was written a LONG time ago, but I was finally inspired to continue this series! You can read part one here. 🙂 I finally reached part 30 of my manga assistant chronicle, where I pass the 6th month mark of working for Konomi-sensei on The New Prince of Tennis, and chapter 1 finally comes out in stores. I felt like this deserved a special celebration, hence this post. 🙂 Earlier, I covered the basis on how you can become a mangaka in Japan. Now let me go over the materials that we used in the Tenipuri studio to make our manga! Click through to read more! (54,377 geeks…

Depression x me x The squiggly line of success
So…….. I haven’t been writing a lot. It’s fair to ask why. I mean, I’ve been blogging for something like 12 years, starting with livejournal, and before that I was email chatting and writing or roleplaying to sort through my emotions with other people that were into ElfQuest (I got into anime from the recommendation of an EQ buddy). So, why I can’t write recently has been a question that’s really been weighing on my mind. Or, well, it was weighing on my mind. Oh, I’m depressed again. I feel like Allie Brosh (without the massive fan following, because let’s face it, she’s really awesome), and probably a ton of…

Answering your questions!
In my quest of being helpful, productive, and just exploring what all is out there, I’ve made my return to “tv”! Well, I mean, YouTube, really. But there are some YouTube shows that rival the best of what’s on TV right now (like SciShow!), so, really. It’s sort of like TV 😀 Anyways, please watch, and then head on over and ask me some more questions! I invite many thumbs-ups and even some thumbs-downs if you don’t like me. I want to keep vlogging, though, and just putting myself out there for the world. I’m sure that I will be able to make better (aka: have more special effects) videos…
