Little known beautiful places: Johns River – Westport, WA
This isn’t in the photos, but it’s foggy and cold this morning in western Washington. It’s the weirdest summer I’ve ever experienced — foggy, frigid mornings, cool days, and then freezing nights! It’s not very pleasant for a desert creature like myself, but it’s quite nice to sit inside and write in my blog a least. I have to say, it sure is weird, though. It’s August and I wear a sweater or sweatshirt most of the time and then I’m still cold! ^^; There are a few sunny days here and there, though. I get out on those days, into the wilderness and bright blue beyond. Sometimes, I just…

Fossil Hunting at Lincoln Creek
Recently, I’ve found myself thinking more often than not about the past – mistakes I’ve made, where I could have done better, things like that. I think that’s a symptom of unhappiness, really, so yeah… I’m putting a stop to that. It’s a hard and imperfect stop, but I’m not willing to continue to think about things that I can’t change. Instead, I am going to look forward — to my next step and how to make it count! That’s how I’ve been trending, anyway, I hope you can tell! I guess that makes it funny that I roped people into going fossil-hunting with me! Get it? THE PAST. But, I…

A Tour of the Twilight Filming Locations
I’ve been to Forks and La Push, where the Twilight book series takes place, but I’ve never been to the actual filming locations from the movies! That’s because while the director wanted to film in Forks, when he came to scout the town he realized there was just not enough infrastructure to support an entire film crew– there were literally not enough places to house and feed all of the people who would be working on the movie, and there was no other large town within driving distance! (Yeah, Forks is really far out there) Enter Halloweento— I mean, St. Helens, Oregon! (1,825 geeks have read this)

Visiting Halloweentown!
Sometime over the summer, I saw a video on Facebook about a little town in Oregon where it’s Halloween all year long. Halloween? OMG YES, I LOVE HALLOWEEN! You’re not the only one dressing up for once, so it really doesn’t feel awkward to let your geek shine! Especially now that “sexy” halloween costumes aren’t the only “cool” option. I mean, as if nerdy costumes were ever less than cool, but I digress. History has been hard to us nerds. Anyways! So, I saw a video for this Halloweentown that made it look really, really cool, and I thought, hey, I have to go! Guess what? I did! 😀 Here is…

Raccoons and life
RACCOONS!!!!! Raccoons came to “our” door! (I don’t really consider this place my home, but I am staying here until I get on over to Hawaii. Can’t beat free!) Okay, it was a while back, before it snowed, but they were there and so freaking cute, playing around the wood pile. Everyone hated them except for me. I love those little rascals. :3 And, I dunno, but I sorta feel happier just remembering them and the pictures that I took. They’re so cute and lovable, and I know that a lot of people say that they’re annoying pests, but this was my first time ever seeing raccoons outside of the…

Pictures from Ocean Shores
I feel a lot better now that I’ve “come out” on my blog about depression in yesterday’s post. It’s certainly uplifting to get the amount of outpouring and love from everyone that I have. Thank you. Thank you all so much! I think that I should probably give myself a makeover sometime soon. I don’t want to change my hairstyle, but I need to find a color of dye that I like in the states. It’s fading, and I think that my natural color is a little bit too light, or at least too flat. Then, there’s also the fact that I’ve been obsessively picking my split ends. I like…

On to La Push, home of the werewolves!
I promised a tour of La Push to go with my Forks Twilight tour, didn’t I? 😀 Ayooah!! (Wait, wrong book series!) Well, I won’t lie; I was always on Team Edward. The whole romance-with-Jacob thing made me almost as angry as the fact that Edward abandoned the person that he loved the most. (Trivia: I get incredibly overreactive when it comes to books) To me, true love is selfish and stupid, and more than anything, it is something that you never let go of, regardless of the outcome. So, yes, Edward was a bonehead. But be that as it is, you still don’t hit on a taken lady, and…

Touring Forks, Washington, the setting for Twilight!
If you like sexy-ish teen vampire literature, and even if you don’t, you might know that the Twilight series (yeah, that famous one!) is set in Forks, Washington. I both love and love to make fun of the books, so judge me as you will. After all, I was born in Olympia, WA, which is down the road from Forks, and spent my college years in Phoenix, the other setting of the Twilight books. So Twilight holds a weird sort of personal connection with me. Plus, I love books with sexual tension but not actual sex (you know the feeling, girls!), so until the last book I was pretty enthralled.…
