Little known beautiful places: Johns River – Westport, WA
This isn’t in the photos, but it’s foggy and cold this morning in western Washington. It’s the weirdest summer I’ve ever experienced — foggy, frigid mornings, cool days, and then freezing nights! It’s not very pleasant for a desert creature like myself, but it’s quite nice to sit inside and write in my blog a least. I have to say, it sure is weird, though. It’s August and I wear a sweater or sweatshirt most of the time and then I’m still cold! ^^; There are a few sunny days here and there, though. I get out on those days, into the wilderness and bright blue beyond. Sometimes, I just…

Fossil Hunting at Lincoln Creek
Recently, I’ve found myself thinking more often than not about the past – mistakes I’ve made, where I could have done better, things like that. I think that’s a symptom of unhappiness, really, so yeah… I’m putting a stop to that. It’s a hard and imperfect stop, but I’m not willing to continue to think about things that I can’t change. Instead, I am going to look forward — to my next step and how to make it count! That’s how I’ve been trending, anyway, I hope you can tell! I guess that makes it funny that I roped people into going fossil-hunting with me! Get it? THE PAST. But, I…

A Tour of the Twilight Filming Locations
I’ve been to Forks and La Push, where the Twilight book series takes place, but I’ve never been to the actual filming locations from the movies! That’s because while the director wanted to film in Forks, when he came to scout the town he realized there was just not enough infrastructure to support an entire film crew– there were literally not enough places to house and feed all of the people who would be working on the movie, and there was no other large town within driving distance! (Yeah, Forks is really far out there) Enter Halloweento— I mean, St. Helens, Oregon! (1,938 geeks have read this)

Visiting Halloweentown!
Sometime over the summer, I saw a video on Facebook about a little town in Oregon where it’s Halloween all year long. Halloween? OMG YES, I LOVE HALLOWEEN! You’re not the only one dressing up for once, so it really doesn’t feel awkward to let your geek shine! Especially now that “sexy” halloween costumes aren’t the only “cool” option. I mean, as if nerdy costumes were ever less than cool, but I digress. History has been hard to us nerds. Anyways! So, I saw a video for this Halloweentown that made it look really, really cool, and I thought, hey, I have to go! Guess what? I did! 😀 Here is…

Living Tall in Japan, part 54
☆ To see all of the parts in this series, click here ☆ I bet you thought I’d forgotten about this series, didn’t you! I never forget– sometimes I just lose steam, but I’m feeling good now, so lots of writing is coming! So, it was basically my 25th birthday. What did I write in my journal? It’s my 25th birthday in 3 days! :O So old!! (1,537 geeks have read this)

Nice photos from a restaurant I didn’t really enjoy.
It can’t all be roses, I guess! But when you’re paying $20 and up per plate, you’d think that there would be a nice selection of things to order. But skip the Surf Lanai if you want a decent selection. As a vegan, anyways. Or anyone with vegan friends. One thing I will give the Royal Hawaiian’s beachfront restaurants are that they’re pretty. The RH is probably the prettiest hotel in Waikiki, unless you think that the classic architecture of the Moana Surfrider is nicer. It’s a tossup, really! But, I mean look at this. The menu, though, was so laughable that I didn’t even take a photo of it. There were…

A Tokyo Sunrise
Tokyo welcomed me back with open arms. It was virtually the same as I had left it. Most of my friends still lived there, most of the shops that I had loved were still there, even if some of them had changed locations. Most of all, the anime was still there. (1,316 geeks have read this)

Update-o-matic!
I want to catch you all up, so that I can move on and get over this slump… I mean, this depression. It has hit me really, really hard the first part of this year, but I’m DETERMINED to get over it. You should see my face. It’s scary. In January, my bike was stolen. So, I had to buy a new bike, but it is just GORGEOUS and has speeds, and I keep it inside now so as to prevent the Locke Lamoras of the world from appropriating it. Locke is cool, but I am not rich. I get a lot of compliments on it, so maybe I should thank whatever crummy…

My first time bouldering – in Waimea Bay
On Sunday, I went out with my girlfriend, roommate, and a few other friends to Waimea Bay on the North Shore. Why? To go bouldering! The gym down my street from our apartment is a bouldering gym, and Justin (le roommate) is a huge fan so Thuy started going, and then I started going, and we made more friends who also go (including James, who was a friend of mine during college but just moved to Honolulu too!). So, a few of us decided that we needed a getaway and went to try out doing this whole climbing thing outside! I mostly worked on my photography skills, because I’m not…

Pumpkin patches in Hawaii!
Lately, I have been watching from abroad as the northern hemisphere turns orange and brown, and people don fall jackets and drink pumpkin spice lattes. You could argue that it’s better in Hawaii, where it’s still in the mid-80s every day, and the sky is blue and clear. We can still swim any day we want, trapped in our eternal summer. But I totally miss fall. It’s hot here, and there isn’t a respite from it. Granted, I’d prefer to be warm over being cold, but it’s not warm. It’s really hot. So, I’m sure that I’m forgetting what fall is all about, but lately I’ve found myself browsing pictures of…
