Living Tall in Japan, part 45

Something sort of wonderful happened in my ninth month in Japan.

One of my teachers for the Japanese class that I was taking now, said that she was friends with a Tenimyu cast member and his girlfriend. Even better, they could get us into the friends&family meet and greet after Dream Live.

Our fangirl meters were off the charts. Who were we to be given such a high opportunity? I don’t know. Whatever it was, it seemed that we were, by some miracle, doing something right.

I fangirled from morning to eve. Every day, every spare scrap of time. It was easier, too, because I had yet to start my new job and I’d already quit my old one.

I fangirled in all of my spare moments, including my own journal:

……. pinch me, I’m dreaming… please? I have to be..

If there is a god, please be with us. Please please please please… I got up the nerve to call a friend of my nihongo sensei today who just so happens to be someone that could get us something very very special. It turns out that she’s gone until Monday…. omg I’m waiting…………………… I’m SO waiting.

I was too nervous to call, so I made Eda call for me. Lately my luck had been absolutely spectacular, but I didn’t want to jinx it. To a little fangirl like me, this was the meeting that could make or break my entire life. More than JUMP, more than a famous actor…

It was meeting the actors from Tenimyu, especially Yanagi, my little Yanagi, who had such an endearing sob story and was fighting through his brain injuries after that horrific car accident. If I could just meet them, especially Yanagi, I could die happily. A new job and Tenimyu. What more could a girl ask for? (becoming a mangaka, for one! But I still hadn’t considered it that deeply yet)

Lucky for us, she said yes, which prompted this display of utter perverse fangirlism:

So in complete and utter fangirlism over the upcoming Dream Live 2nd, when I met up with Eda, Erin, and co. last night, Eda and I broke down in so many giggles that it hurt. I couldn’t breathe… two foreign guys totally moved to a different table because we were discussing Yanagi and his porny face in the D-Boys photobook. And then we moved into a myraid of discussions culminating in a long dissertation on Shirota’s hair.. I mean, all of it. We named most of his body hair. See, it bothered both of us a little bit because in his topless picture in the photobook, you can see tufts of hair sticking out from under his arms.. O.o I mean, in such a way that it looks like it will really escape. And while sure, some of the boys have a tiny bit of hair here and there he definitely was scary.. So, in an attempt at mental defense, we named all of the hair. XD And now I present to you:

A comprehensive list of the names of Don Shirota’s hairs:
+ his pets: Pepe and Jose (aka underarm things that look like they’re alive)
+ his chest hairs, aka ‘the little guys’: Carlito, Juanito, Jesus, Enrique, Ricardito, Antonio, Gordito, and Pedro
+ His… umm, well they’re not hairs. XD: Taquito, Chorizo, and Chupa-chup. The accompanying hairs are collectively called ‘Peletachi’, showing off his mixed spanish/japanese heritage.
+ Oh, and his hair… the stuff on his head: ‘El gato muerto’…. because it looks like one.. (esp in the Okinawa Boys webdrama)…

Sorry Shirota, we really do love you. ♥ ♥ ♥

Oh, Shirota was the guy who played Tezuka at the time. You’ll see below.

Something GOOD is going to happen this week. I’m completely psyched and completely speechless. Well, almost speechless. I’m psyched for sure. Oh, wow… yeah.

My japanese is really, really bad. I need to study, and I will. Must learn by Dream Live, which is, oh… the day after tomorrow (it’s almost 10 pm eh…). I can’t breathe.

I don’t know how I didn’t have a heart attack. I as the very picture of the youngest neko-fangirls that populate conventions today. Hyperventilation was my language of choice. Relax, ladies, I have totally been where you are. I understand j00. 😉

Today rocked my world. Dream Live 2 was AMAZING.

Through a series of connections, we were able to go into the backstage green room between performances. We’ve known this was going to be a reality for a while now, and it was hard not to mention it online….. Let’s just say, while we didn’t have a chance to meet ALL of the cast (some weren’t there, and a lot of them left before we could talk…) I think we are some of the luckiest people in existence. Eda, Aya, and I all went backstage. We took pictures with the cast members: Miyano and Takagi (Fudomine), JURI (Akutsu), Wada (Sengoku), Kawakubo (Taiichi Dan), Aiba (Fuji), Ishibashi (Horio… and honestly I think these are some of the best pics.. XD;;), Shirota (Tezuka… SO NICE!), Endo (O.O), and…. Yanagi!!! (Yay!) We talked with a lot of them to varying degrees. I think that Endo was surprised…. He did ask us to support him in the future, which is something I will do more than gladly. I love that boy, he gave his all today and was just amazing! Ishibashi was a…. lalala won’t say, but he came out shirtless and I took scary pics with him. XD;; HORIO is love!! Kawakubo was SO sweet and cute and seemed really intersted in us! XD;; He’s so young! XD JURI is taller tham me!!! :O (I’m 6’1″). Actually, EVERYONE was so sweet!!! Yanagi was crazy, in the completely good way!! He’s just like he seems on the videos, very funny and strange. I love it! He’s a bit like me, but maybe a bit more crazy. I think anyone who hangs out with him must have so much fun!! Yanagi was just so much fun to talk to! LOL and Aya said that when I sat down next to Shirota, I seemed at home. LOL I guess I was a little bit. It was a lot of fun! I also talked to Ichitaro, who was in the back chatting with Shirota and Shiozawa. I’m afraid that I ignored a few members who looked liike they wanted to talk. ^^;; It wasn’t on purpose! I’m just so random! Next time, I’ll talk to them all! ~<3 They were all SO NICE!!!!!

Yeah, it was a good day. 😉 I’ll leave you with the pictures that did survive. Some of them, sadly, were lost in my multiple hard drive crashes (both the original AND the backup! :O), but some of them made it through, somehow. Including Yanagi.  <3 My Yanagiiii. He was so, so different when I met him again, at my sendoff party for Tenimyu. While it makes me sad to have to say it, I am glad to have met him back then, in his slightly better days.

Here we are with Miyano Mamoru (who is a famous seiyuu now), and Takagi Shun, with Juri peeking over our shoulders and some Seigaku 2dai-me cast in the background:

Making friends with Juri. He was taller than me! :O

Kawakubo Yuki, the adorable boy who played Taiichi Dan:

Hiroki Aiba, in all of his Fuji-ness:

Endo Yuuya, the 2nd Ryoma:

My sweet and adorable and loving Yanagi! I nearly had a heart attack! He was also fluent in English, and a crazy, crazy delight. 😉

Ishibashi Yusuke, the same Horio that we’d run into on the train during my first time at Tenimyu! 😀

The aforementioned Shirota Yuu. We never told him about the hair. Thankfully. Please don’t. He was also taller than me!

Except for Yanagi and Mamoru Miyano (because he’s a seiyuu too), none of us really had a lot to say. It was still a fangirl’s paradise! Can you imagine meeting some of your favorite actors in the world?

I don’t think that I would be half as nervous meeting Taylor Swift (even though I adore her!) as I was meeting those guys back then. A younger me, a me who had given herself up to fangirling and wasn’t interested in much else. It was a naive, but really great time in my life! I did not want to come back down from that high. No way.

And I didn’t. No siree!

See you guys tomorrow! ;D

Sorry for replying on a SUPER old post, but I first read all of these posts almost four years ago when I was just dreaming about moving to Japan (I’ve lived here for three years now), and I didn’t really understand all this TeniMyu stuff. Who would’ve thought that I would also become a huge 2.5D fan? Even so, I’ve not seen a TeniMyu show yet, but I DID just meet a couple of actors who were in it, which reminded me of you, so I came back to reread. It seems the guys I know were second season, though, while yours were first.

In any case, I used to joke about following in your footsteps, just 10 years later, but I never realized I’d get into the energy of stage plays, too! These blogs resound even more with me now. Though I’m no longer pursuing art and am studying acting instead (my Japanese debut live is next month!), it still feels like I have an odd connection with this story. So I wanted to say thank you for all the inspiration over the past few years! Still enjoying seeing you on Instagram from time to time!

I think it’s great that you could meet them like that. Soooo lucky!!!
And I know how nervous you must have been. XD
When meeting Ikuta Toma and that was just seeing him, not meeting him backstage, I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo nervous and excited! XDDDD

I can’t imagine how it must feel for the person, so have people so nervous to meet you! I wonder if there will ever be a day where people are that excited to meet me, and I just can’t imagine it. I would feel so unworthy, and I wonder if they feel the same way! Also, as a fan I remember it really well and talk about it as something important to me, but they probably don’t remember me at all.

Hahahaha your body hair naming is hilarious!!!! I loved it. So many spanish names, they make it so much funnier. Spanish is my first language and it was funny.

    Thanks for sharing Jamie

    Awesome pictures!

Lol, I will never be able to take Mamo seriously as a seiyuu in anything, just because he used to be such a dork in Tenimyu. XD

And yeah, Juri is HUGE, isn’t he? I saw him in the Kyou Kara Mao stage play last year and he was just towering over everyone else O_O; But still I can’t believe he’s taller than you! XD

Hahaa, I know what you mean! To me, he is a Tenimyu star first, and a seiyuu second. Although ever since he did the new Kuroro, I have a lot of respect for him. 🙂

Yeah, isn’t it crazy! I met him again, years later when I went to see Shitenhouji myu with Konomi-sensei. He still towered over me, and I was 186 cm! I don’t know who is taller– Juri or Shirota Yuu!
