I don’t feel like talking about the past today, but that’s okay. ^^ I actually feel really optimistic about the future! So I’m just going to talk (well, write) a little bit. I hope that’s okay. ^^
Today, I went to see Divergent. It was a lot, lot better than I was expecting! I read the book (and its sequel. I’m reading the third book now, but sort of put it aside because it’s harder to get into) last summer, and remember liking everything but the sort of climactic battle near the end. It was the same thing with the movie, although I did tear up at a few points. The visuals were stunning, and Shailene did an amazing job as Tris. I was already a huge fan of hers from Secret Life of the American Teenager, but this is the first time that I’ve seen her as an action hero. She was great! And oh man, did she ever pull on my heartstrings a few times! I love Lost Girl, but I think that Tris is more my type of heroine.
Yeah, I need to see this movie again!
I also saw the first volume of the Goong manwha at the library the other day, and promptly read through volume 8 (all they had). It was soooo, sooooo good! I love her art style, it reminds me a little bit of Yazawa Ai, except that her chibi/SD-style is really ugly. I wonder if that’s a common thing in Korean comics, because I haven’t really seen it in Japanese comics, especially shoujo/josei titles. Ahhh, finally I found a title that is at least sort of comparable to Nana. Of course, a big problem with manwha is that I can’t read Korean, so I can’t just pick up the Japanese volumes and skip ahead of the English release! Oh no…. Maybe I need to learn Korean next……………………. I’m not sure that I want to dive into another language when I’m not even completely fluent in Japanese. Erk.. my mind can only do so much!
Speaking of which, I have been thinking that when I do get to Hawaii, I will enroll in a Japanese language school, and finally, finally commit to taking classes. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good language school in Honolulu? I’ve looked around the internet a bit, but on the off-chance that there’s anyone who has taken advanced classes in Honolulu and thinks that their teachers/schools rocked, I’d be really grateful! ^^
Although I don’t know when I will get to Honolulu. I hope that I sell enough copies of my Tenipuri book to make it happen right away! While I’m marketing and selling that, I’m throwing my all into Denkiki issue one, because it needs to be finished and out before I leave for HI. Depending on how the Tenipuri book goes, I might make it available as an ebook for free, or a webcomic, and then sell the print volumes when there are enough chapters. If I still need money, though, I’ll probably sell the ebook for a fee. I’m just thinking out loud, because you guys are my friends/audience. The money from Tenipuri book and Denkiki will not only help me start on my new life, but also help me move forward on the manga magazine that I want to eventually put together!
Let’s just call these ventures “step one.” Will they succeed? I don’t know, but I hope so! It not only depends on how hard I work, but how many people want to read the stories. We will see! Who knows… I am eager to see how everything turns out!
Before I go tonight, I want to share some old pictures of Sansa that I’ve been meaning to upload forever, it seems like! In February, it snowed a little, and I let Sansa get a taste of what it was like… she didn’t really like it, aha. Maybe she’s a tropical cat, like I’m a desert child! 😀
Snow! It snowed in Washington about the same amount that I’m used to from Tokyo. Although last year in Tokyo it snowed a bit more than usual!
She’s like, “I don’t know about this….. but I really want to go out!”
Off I go!
Mmmm, this smells good…….
Nah, I think I’ll go back in.. hey, why are you following me, mommy?
And one last shot of her… isn’t she adorable?! She’s really growing up! Speaking of which.. her 2nd birthday is in a little over a week! I think she deserves a party, don’t you? =(^.^)=
Well… that’s all for now! It’s almost midnight!! I’ll be seeing you again tomorrow at midnight! 😉
Love, Jamie <3
